Big Chief's in LaPlace is owned by Judy & Gary Mackles.
The Mackles family has over 35 years experience in serving
some of the best and real "New Orleans Style" snowballs and ice cream
treats around. Originally located in Metairie, Louisiana Big Chief's
relocated to LaPlace in 1975. Then located on Hemlock Street,
across from the fire station, Big Chief's quickly became a favorite
spot for LaPlace area families who enjoyed our "fine ice" snowballs
and hand dipped ice cream. Now, the
tradition continues at our current location on the corner of Carrollwood Drive and Greenwood Drive
, next to LaPlace Elementary.
Big Chief's has had three different families manage it:
The Mackles, the Hanes, & Currently the Fingers.
Yet, we have only had one owning family: The Mackles.
We have the most loyal customers in the world
and would love to have you as one, too!
Big Chief's is Proud to have served LaPlace since 1975,
and will continuce to serve LaPlace for time to come.
Big Chief's is open seasonally. Weather permitting, we usually open around mid/late March and stay open through September, Weather permitting.
